Admits the move — signed the 2014 statement, then in 2020 said he had been fed a huge amount of lies about Israel his whole life and refused to walk it back when pressed. Six years between the two, and he has not gone back.

- Signed the Creative Community for Peace statement of August 2014, headlined "Commitment to Justice and Peace", carrying more than 190 Hollywood names and circulated during that year's assault on Gaza. Its hardest passage is the human-shields framing that is used to justify striking exactly those places: "Hamas cannot be allowed to rain rockets on Israeli cities, nor can it be allowed to hold its own people hostage. Hospitals are for healing, not for hiding weapons. Schools are for learning, not for launching missiles. Children are our hope, not our human shields." This is weaker evidence than the 2023 letter and the record should say so: the 2014 text also states the signatories are "saddened by the devastating loss of life endured by Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza" and calls for peace in the region. creativecommunityforpeace.com

- Said on Marc Maron's WTF podcast that he had been "fed a huge amount of lies about Israel" his entire life, and called the premise of preserving Jewish people in one place "an antiquated thought process". Pressed on it afterwards he refused to walk it back: "I did not apologize for what I said. I offered clarity." timesofisrael.com
